7th anniversary donation to the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation.

7th anniversary donation to the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation.

This November marks the 7th anniversary of Aimee-Cherie Intimates. It was an angsty, romantic and nostalgic love project I started in my Mama’s garage and on her kitchen bench. It has since evolved into an ethical and sustainable intimates label on track to make more changes to be proud of in the year to come.

It’s an incredible privilege to own your own label, and come to work each day to run your own business. This year to mark our 7 year anniversary I wanted to pay some of our good fortune forward.

I have chosen to donate 25% of our sales from this week (and our limited edition Peaches sets until sold out) to a foundation that is doing research that is incredibly close to my heart, the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation (OCRF).

The OCRF was established in 2000 and is Australia’s leading independent body that dedicates funding to much needed national ovarian cancer research.

Ovarian cancer is the deadliest gynaecological cancer and most poorly funded in Australia. The 5 year survival rate is 46% in comparison to the 91% for women diagnosed with breast cancer. This statistic has barely changed in 30 years.

There is currently no early detection test.
Your pap smear, cervical screening or mammogram will not detect it.
The symptoms are incredibly vague and often easily missed causing most women to be diagnosed in the advance, late stages.

This is a little information to a much bigger picture, but it highlights why innovative research is so urgently needed- we must find an early detection test and discover better and more effective treatments that will help women survive their diagnosis long term.

Developing an early detection test for the next generation will save the lives of 8000 Australian women over the next decade.

In the past year I have witnessed what a battle ovarian cancer presents for women diagnosed with this disease, and I’m so grateful for the incredible oncologists, nurses, trial drug and treatment researchers, and scientists who are dedicating their lives to helping save those of our most precious ones.

I’m even more proud of the grace, strength and determined attitude of the women we know having and had fought this cancer.

The donation we make this week will hopefully be one we can continue to make to foundations like OCRF more often.

So I so very, very sincerely thank-you if you choose to make an order with us this week, and I’ll be updating our social media with our donation receipt at the end of the week.

Alternatively if you are in a position to make a direct donation, I encourage you to head straight to ocrf.com.au.

More than anything please talk to the people in your life about the often unknown facts about ovarian cancer, looking out for early signs, and the urgency we have to discover an early detection test.

We must find this for the women we hold so very dearly in our lives.
